In 2022, Austria experienced devastating bushfires and floods, simultaneously which weighed heavy on our hearts. Witnessing the loss of lives, homes, livelihoods, and treasured possessions deeply moved us, and we felt compelled to act. Believing in the strength of community, we organised raffles to rally support for those affected, raising over €8,000 through the unwavering generosity of our customers. We also donated clothing to various charities during these crises, understanding the profound sense of dignity that clothing can offer when so much else has been lost. As a brand, we remain steadfast in our commitment to support our community in times of need.

As part of our ongoing commitment to inclusivity, we expanded our size range in September 2023 to ensure that every collection now offers sizes from XXS to 4XL. While we are actively working towards incorporating more natural fibres into our collections, this remains a continuous journey of improvement. With the launch of our Marine Edit collection, we have taken an important step toward sustainability by introducing recycled fabrics into our designs. Although this transition is gradual, we are fully committed to expanding our use of eco-friendly materials across future collections. Our focus remains on sourcing new, high-quality recycled fabrics that meet the same rigorous standards as our existing products, ensuring that sustainability and excellence go hand in hand. As we continue on this journey, we aim to make a lasting impact while maintaining the elevated craftsmanship our customers have come to expect.

Did you know that approximately 260,000 tonnes of fashion waste end up in Austrian landfills each year, according to the Austrian Fashion Council? This alarming statistic is a stark reminder of the industry's environmental footprint, and we are determined to be part of the solution, not the problem. To combat this, we employ two key strategies. First, we encourage customers with faulty items to seek repairs from a seamstress, covering the cost to extend the life of the garment. Second, we’ve collaborated with our factories to adopt a demand-based purchasing model, operating on a 4-6 week lead time. This approach minimizes deadstock and prevents overproduction, ensuring we create only what is truly needed.

In furthering our commitment to sustainability, we also hold biannual sample sales, offering products with minor faults or samples at reduced prices. These sales provide our customers with exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces while significantly reducing landfill waste. By giving these garments a second life, we promote mindful consumption and uphold our vision of a more sustainable fashion industry.

Plastic waste is a significant challenge within the fashion industry, and at theleesburgreview, we recognise the need to take greater responsibility for protecting our planet. While ensuring your garments arrive in perfect condition remains non-negotiable, we are committed to finding more sustainable solutions. In 2022, we began transitioning to 100% compostable poly bags and mailer bags, and we are now moving to 100% compostable ziplock packaging—an ideal way to keep your new pieces safe while caring for the environment. Once you're done, simply toss them in your compost, knowing you're contributing to a greener future.

Additionally, we've switched to swing tags made from 100% recycled paper, with strings crafted from recycled materials.

We're also working diligently to reduce plastic use in the transport phase of our operations. By collaborating with our factories, we've already reduced plastic consumption by over 25%. Replacing plastic with fabric deadstock and cardboard alternatives has been key to this progress, and we're continuously seeking more eco-friendly solutions.

Over the past couple of years, we have made significant strides in reducing our environmental impact by optimising our shipping operations. By consolidating shipments from our factories to our warehouse, we now ship more efficiently and less frequently. This not only minimises our carbon emissions but also aligns with our broader commitment to sustainability. Through these efforts, we continue to seek out ways to operate responsibly and reduce our environmental footprint without compromising the quality or timeliness of our products.
